The Best Books of 1916

Each year the New York State Library selects 250 of the best books published during the preceding year, and recommends them to the libraries of the State. Their list for 1916, which has just been made public, contains 48 books published by Houghton Mifflin Company, or over 19 per cent of the total.

The selection is made with such care that it forms the best possible basis from which to choose books for smaller libraries or for individual use. We suggest that you keep the following list of Houghton Mifflin Company's books included in the selection, for reference in planning your own library.
