EORGE the Second, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, &c. To all to whom thefe Prefents fhall come, Greeting. Whereas Our Trufty and Well-Beloved Robert Dodfley Bookfeller, bas by his Petition humbly reprefented unto Us, that be is now printing a Practical Book for the Ufe of Schools in Two Volumes Octavo, illuftrated with Maps and useful Cuts, entituled The PRECEPTOR, containing a General COURSE of EDUCATION, wherein the firft Principles of POLITE LEARNING are laid down, in a way moft fuitable for trying the Genius, and advancing the Inftruction of Youth, in twelve Parts: Firft, on Reading, Speaking, and Writing Letters; Second, on Geometry; Third, on Geography and Aftronomy; Fourth, on Chronology and Hiftory; Fifth, on Rhetoric and Poetry; Sixth, on Drawing; Seventh, on Logic, Eighth, on Natural History; Ninth, on Ethics or Morality; Tenth, on Trade and Commerce; Eleventh, on Laws and Government; Twelfth, on Human Life and Manners: That the Petitioner has been at great Expence and Trouble in procuring the feveral Parts of the faid Work, to be executed by Perfons qualified to do them in the beft manner, and the fole Right and Title to the Copy of the fame being vefted in the Petitioner. Wherefore he has moft humbly prayed Us to grant him Our Royal Privilege and Licence for the fole printing, publishing and vending of the faid Work for the Term of Fourteen Years. We being willing to give all due Encouragement to a Work that Seems to merit particular Regard, as it promises to be of great Use in that important Point, the EDUCATION of YOUTH, are graciously pleafed to condescend to his Requeft. And we do therefore by thefe Prefents, So far as may be agreeable to the Statute in that behalf made and provided, grant unto him the said Robert Dodfley, his Executors, Adminiftrators and Affigns, Our Licence for the fole printing and publishing of the faid Work, for the Term of Fourteen Years, to be computed from the Date hereof, firictly forbbiding all Our Subjects within Our Kingdoms and Dominions to reprint, or abridge the fame, either in the like, or any Size or Manner whatsoever, or to import, buy, vend, utter or diftribute any Copies thereof, reprinted beyond the Seas, during the aforefaid Term of Fourteen Years, without the Confent or Approbation of the faid Robert Dodfley, his Executors, Administrators and Affigns, under their Hands and Seals firft had and obtained, as they will answer the contrary at their Peril; whereof the Commissioners, and other Officers of our Cufloms, the Mafter, Warden, and Company of Stationers, are to take Notice, that due Obedience may be rendered to Our Pleafure herein declared. Given at our Court at St. James's the Fourth Day of February 174, in the Twenty first Year of our Reign.
