ELLWOOD C. PERISHO. Dr. Ellwood C. Perisho, formerly from Indiana, for several years has been president of the State College of South Dakota and active in patriotic work for this government. Before going to Europe as a member of the American Army University at Beaune, France, he lectured for the Department of Agriculture, the Federal Food Administrator, the Liberty Loan Committee, United War Work Council, the Red Cross and to the American soldiers in camps in the United States. As a member of the United States Army Educational Corps, Mr. Perisho did exceptional work. He lectured to the men in all parts of France, including Alsace and Lorraine; in Belgium and in that part of Germany open to the American army. Something of the extent of his work will be understood when it is known that he spoke two or three times a day, addressing from 1,000 to 3,000 men daily. In all, more than 200,000 men heard Mr. Perisho's message to the American Expeditionary Forces. Officers and soldiers were both interested and delighted with his addresses. Upon special order, Mr. Perisho remained for over a month in the Brest area, speaking daily to the soldiers. waiting for transportation home. So much has been said concerning Brest, it is of interest to know that great effort was made by the United War Workers to furnish social and educational opportunities for the men encamped at or passing through Brest as a port of debarkation. In addition to his addresses in the city and at other camps, Mr. Perisho spoke at the following places at Camp Pontanezen : Y. M. C. A. Auditorium, Red Cross Hall, Salvation Army Hall, Jewish Welfare Board Hall, Knights of Columbus and the following Y. M. C. A. huts: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Butlar, Castle, Connecticut, Douglas, Engineers 319, Engineers 106, Eastern Star, Liberty, Marine, Nevada, Soldiers' Rest and Vermont.
