JUNIOR PHYSIOLOGY.

PRELIMINARY HONOURS.

1. Indicate the afferent pathway of nerve impulses from the retina to the visual area on the cerebrum. Also of the afferent pathway of nerve impulses from the vestibule and semi-circular canals.

2. What is the function of the cerebellum? How has this function been demonstrated?

3. What are the different functions of the blood and lymph? Define a hormone. Illustrate your answer by reference to one that is formed in the duodenum.

5. Discuss the relative influences of the various stimuli which affect respiratory movements.

6. Calculate our food requirements per day measured in calories. Enumerate the requirements in a good foodstuff.

7. Give the composition of urine. Discuss its secretion.

FINAL HONOUR PHYSIOLOGY.

1. Trace the connections of the neurones which compose the tracts of Goll and Burdach. Also the pathway of motor impulses from the cerebellum.

2. What are the conditions which affect the formation and reduction of oxy-hæmoglobin? What are some of the effects of (a) decreased and (b) increased pressure of air on most people?

3. Discuss the regulation of body temperature through the agency of heat centres. How does section or crushing of the spinal cord affect body temperature? How does the administration of alcohol affect it? Explain.

4. Describe the glands of the skin. Give the chemical composition of their secretions.

5. What circumstances determine the value of any foodstuff? Describe the sources, digestion and disposition of fatty foods.

6. Explain the functions fulfilled by the lymphatics of the eye. Describe the development of the ear in the mammalian embryo.

7. Discuss the location and connections of the sensorimotor area of the cerebrum.
