2 Wealth, labour, talents, freely give,
Yea, life itself,-that they may live:
What hath your Saviour done for you?
And what for Him will ye not do?

3 Thou Spirit of the Lord, go forth:
Call in the South, wake up the North;
Of every clime, from sun to sun,
Gather God's children into one.

"Cause the trumpet of the Jubilee to sound."
LEV. XXV. 9.
4-6's & 2-8's.

BLOW ye the trumpet, blow:

The gladly solemn sound

Let all the nations know,
To earth's remotest bound,

The year of Jubilee is come;

Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

Exalt the Lamb of God,
The all-atoning Lamb;
Redemption by His blood

Through all the world proclaim.
The year of Jubilee is come;
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

The news of heavenly grace:
Ye happy souls draw near;
Behold your Saviour's face.
The year of Jubilee is come;
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hath full atonement made:

Ye weary spirits rest;

Ye mourning souls be glad.

The year of Jubilee is come;

Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

"Go ye.. and teach all nations."
MATT. XXViii. 19.

FROM Greenland's icy mountains,

From India's coral strand,

Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand;

From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain

D.7.6.7.6

2 Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high-
Shall we, to men benighted,
The lamp of life deny ?
Salvation! oh, salvation!
The joyful sound proclaim,
Till each remotest nation

Has learned Messiah's name.

3 Waft, waft, ye winds, His story;
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till, like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole;
Till, o'er our ransomed nature,
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,

In bliss return to reign.

"Declare His praise in the islands."
ISAIAH Xiii. 12.

SHINE, mighty God, on Britain shine,
With beams of heavenly grace;

Reveal Thy power through all our coasts,
And show Thy smiling face.

2 When shall Thy name, from shore to shore, Sound all the earth abroad;

And distant nations know and love
Their Saviour and their God?

3 Sing to the Lord, ye distant lands,
Sing loud, with solemn voice;
While British tongues exalt His praise,
And British hearts rejoice.

3 He, the great Lord, the sovereign Judge,
Who sits enthroned above,

Wisely commands the worlds He made
In justice, and in love.

5 God, the Redeemer, scatters round
His choicest favours here;

While the creation's utmost bound
Shall see, adore, and fear.

"The Lord is round about His people."
PSALM CXXV. 2.

GOD bless our native land;

May Heaven's protecting hand
Still guard our shore !

May peace her power extend,
Foc be transformed to friend,
And Britain's rights depend
On war no more!

2 Through every changing scene,
O Lord, preserve the Queen;
Long may she reign!

Her heart inspire and move
With wisdom from above,
And in a nation's love

Her throne maintain.

3 May just and righteous laws
Uphold the public cause,
And bless our isle!

Home of the brave and free,
The land of liberty!
We pray that still on thee
Kind Heaven may smile.

4 And not this land alone:
But be Thy mercies known
From shore to shore.
Lord, let the nations see
That men should brothers bc,
And form one family,

The wide world o'er.

"All nations shall serve Him."
PSALM 1xxii. 11.

FROM all that dwell below the skies,

Let the Creator's praise arise;

Let the Redeemer's name be sung,
Through every land, by every tongue.

2 Eternal are Thy mercies, Lord;
Eternal truth attends Thy word;
Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore,
Till sun shall rise and set no more.

MORNING AND EVENING.

"Bring your sacrifices every morning."
AMOS iv. 4.

1 AWAKE, my soul, and, with the sun,
Thy daily stage of duty run;

Shake off dull sloth, and joyful rise,
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

2 Thy precious time, mis-spent, redeem;
Each present day, thy last esteem;
Improve thy talent with due care;
For the great day thyself prepare.
3 In conversation be sincere ;

Keep conscience, as the noon-tide clear;
Think how All-seeing God, thy ways,
Thine every secret thought, surveys!
4 Glory to Thee, who safe hast kept,
And hast refreshed me while I slept
Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake,
I may of endless life partake.

5 Lord, I my vows to Thee renew:
Disperse my sins as morning dew;
Guard my first springs of thought and will,
And with Thyself my spirit fill.

6 Direct, control, suggest, this day,
All I design, or do, or say;

168

1

That all my powers, with all their might,
In Thy sole glory may unite.

Praise God, &c.

NOW

the morning's cheerful light Drives away the gloom of night;

Rise, our souls, in praises rise,

Far above the lofty skies.

2 Keep us, gracious God, this day;
Dangers press around our way;
Every sinful passion quell;
Let no secret thought rebel.

3 Let no sin an entrance find,

To pollute our youthful mind;
Guard our souls from every snare,
Keep us with almighty care.

My voice shalt Thou hear in the morning."
PSALM V. 3.

TIMELY happy, timely wise,

Hearts that with rising morn arise!

Eyes that the beam celestial view,
Which evermore makes all things new.

2 New every morning is the love

Our wakening and uprising prove;

L.M.

Through sleep and darkness safely brought,
Restored to life, and power, and thought.

3 New mercies, each returning day, Hover around us while we pray;

New perils past, new sins forgiven, New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven. 4 Our Father God! in Thy dear love, Fit us for perfect rest above; And help us, this and every day, To live more nearly as we pray.

"The people came early to hear Him."

[ocr errors]

LUKE XXI. 38.

ORD, in the morning, Thou shalt hear

My voice ascending high:

To Thee will I direct my prayer,
To Thee lift up mine eye.

2 Up to the hills, where Christ is gone
To plead for all His saints;
Presenting, at His Father's throne
Their songs and their complaints.

3 Thou art a God before whose sight,
The wicked shall not stand;
Sinners shall ne'er be Thy delight,
Nor dwell at Thy right hand.

4

But to Thy house will I resort,
To taste Thy mercies there:
I will frequent Thy holy court,
And worship in Thy fear.

5 O may Thy Spirit guide my feet
In ways of righteousness;

Make every path of duty straight,
And plain before my face!

"The righteous shine forth as the sun."
MATT. xiii. 43.

GOD of the morning, at whose voice

C.M.

L.M.

The cheerful sun makes haste to rise,
And, like a giant, doth rejoice

To run his journey through the skies:

2 From the fair chambers of the East,
The circuit of his race begins,

And without weariness or rest,
Round the whole earth he flies and shines.

3 0, like the sun, may I fulfil

The appointed duties of the day;

With ready mind and active will

March on, and keep my heavenly way.
