"Thy will be done on earth."
MATT. vi. 10.

7's.

GOD of love! before Thee now

Help us all in love to bow;
As the dews on Hermon fall,
Let Thy blessing rest on all.
2 Let it soften every breast,
Hush ungentle thoughts to rest,
Till we feel ourselves to be
Children of one family.

3 But while thankfully we stand
Round Thy footstool, hand in hand,
Yet one humble, earnest plea,
Father, we would bring to Thee:
4 Far across the ocean wave

Brethren, sisters, too, we have;
But they have not heard of Thee;
Wilt Thou not their Father be?
5 Let them hear the Shepherd's voice,
And beneath His care rejoice;
And together let them come

To the fold while yet there's room.

"He will save us."

ISAIAH XXxiii. 22.

JESUS, guide Thy wandering sheep,
As with feeble steps we press
On the pathway rough and steep,
Through this weary wilderness;
O Good Shepherd, day by day,
Lead us in the narrow way.

2 There are stony paths to tread :-
Give the strength we sorely lack;
There are tangled ways to thread;-
Light us, lest we miss the track.

7's.

O Good Shepherd, &c.

3 There are soft and flowery glades,
Decked with golden-fruited trees,
Sunny slopes and scented shades;-
Keep us, Lord, from slothful ease.

O Good Shepherd, &c.

4 There are sandy wastes that lie

Cold and sunless, vast and drear,
Where the feeble faint and die ;-
Grant us grace to persevere.

O Good Shepherd. &

"The holy Scriptures."
2 TIM. iii. 15.

MAY we love the Bible!
God's holy book of truth,

The blessed staff of hoary age,

The guide of early youth:

The lamp that sheds a glorious light
On else a dreary road:

The word that speaks a Saviour's love,
And shows the way to God!

2 O may we love the Bible!

And search that blessed mine,

All filled with brightest gems of truth,
For men of every clime:

The guilty sinner here may learn-
The Gentile and the Jew-
To wash his robes in Jesus' blood
From stains of every hue.

3 O may we love the Bible!

515

For which the martyrs died,
And spread the glorious truth of God,
Wherever men reside:

It tells the dying how to live,
When time has passed away,
And walk with God in robes of light,
Through realms of endless day.

4 O may we love the Bible!

1

And shun the crafty tongue

That would this treasure take away,
And leave our souls undone;
That would consign immortal minds
To gloom of endless night :-

May we "maintain the truth in love;"
And "God defend the right."

"He giveth His beloved sleep."
PSALM CXXvii. 2.

SUN

UN of my soul, Thou Saviour dear,
It is not night if Thou be near:
O may no earth-born cloud arise,
To hide Thee from Thy servant's eyes
2 When the soft dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eyelids gently steep,
Be my last thought how sweet to rest
For ever on my Saviour's breast.

P.M.

L.M.

3 Abide with me from morn till eve,
For without Thee I cannot live:
Abide with me when night is nigh,
For without Thee I dare not die.

4 If some poor wandering child of Thine
Have spurned, to-day, the voice divine,
Now, Lord, the gracious work begin;
Let him no more lie down in sin.

5 Watch by the sick, enrich the poor
With blessings from Thy boundless store:
Be every mourner's sleep to-night

Like infant's slumbers, pure and light.
6 Come near and bless us when we wake,
Ere through the world our way we take:
Till in the ocean of Thy love

"Then shall I know."

1 COR. xiii. 12.

VHEN this passing world is done,
When has sunk yon glaring sun,
When I stand with Christ in glory,
Looking o'er life's finished story;
Then, Lord, shall I fully know-
Not till then-how much I owe.
2 When I stand before the throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see Thee as Thou art,-
Love Thee with unsinning heart;
Then, Lord, shall I fully know-
Not till then-how much I owe.

3 Even on earth, as through a glass,
Darkly let Thy glory pass;

517

Make forgiveness feel so sweet,
Make Thy Spirit's help so meet;
Even on earth, Lord, make me know
Something of how much I owe.

"They need no light of the sun."
REV. xxii. 5.

HERE is the land of cloudless day?

1 WE

7's.

P.M.

Whose are the feet that make the way?

What is the light, which, through the night,
Shines on the path which leads us right?

? Heaven is the land of cloudless day,
Saviour! Thy footsteps mark the way.
Light from Thy perfect word of truth
Shines to direct our wandering youth.
How may a weak and erring child,
Ignorant, frail, with sin defiled,
Tread in the path which Thou hast trod,
Leading to holiness, peace, and God?

4

Saviour! on Thee my trust I lay,
Thou art the truth, the life, the way;
Wash with Thy blood my soul from sin,
Dwell by Thy spirit my heart within.

5 Bring me to Thee, to know Thy love?—
Living for Thee, Thy strength to prove ;
Looking to Thee, to run my race;
Dying to Thee, to see Thy face.

6 Here we must part: there, friends abide :
Here we must weep: there tears are dried.
Here we must toil: there grant us rest,-
Sanctified, glorified, saved, and blest!

"A house not made with hands."
2 COR. V. 1.

P.M.

OH! bright are the mansions prepared by the

Lord,

For those who obey Him and trust in His word.
No longer on earth, He is hid from our sight,
In the house of His Father, that dwelling of light;
And there has provided a glorious abode,

And made it the home of the children of God. 2 This earth, we are sure, cannot long be our rest, Our places by others must soon be possest,

And therefore has Jesus those mansions prepared, For all who believe what His word has declared; Who tread the strait path all His people have trod, And seek the bright home of the children of God. 3 There, Christ, the good shepherd, His people will feed:

By cool flowing fountains His flock He will lead; No more shall they hunger; the Lord shall provide For those whom His love and His mercy shall guide,

Unharm'd through death's valley, with staff and with rod,

To give them a home with the children of God.

4 No night shall be there, no disease, no decay; All tears from their faces will God wipe away; No friend shall depart, no enemy come

To trouble the peaceful enjoyment of home.
On earth, for a season, our path must be trod;
But heaven is the home of the children of God.

"Lead me in a plain path."
PSALM XXVii. 11.

'ER the waters dark and drear,
'Mid life's lonely sea,

Saviour, still my course I steer,

Looking up to Thee;

Star of heaven! to wanderers dear,
Brightly shine on me.

2 Frail my bark, and torn my sail,
Loud the billows roar ;
Other star nor moonbeam pale
Gleams my pathway o'er;

P.M.

Star of heaven! smile through the gale,
Bid me fear no more.

3 Star of heaven! while tempests rise,
'Mid the darksome gloom;
Till in yon celestial skies

520

Endless morn shall bloom;

Cheer my fainting, longing eyes,
Guide the wanderer home.

"Call the Sabbath a delight.'
ISAIAH lviii. 13.

HAPPY, happy Sunday!

Thou day of peace and heaven,
"Tis fit we should give one day
To Him who gave us seven.
Though other days bring sadness,
Thou bidst us cease to mourn,
Then hail, thou day of gladness,
I welcome Thy return.

2 Happy, happy Sunday!
We shall not toil to-day;
Postponed to busy Monday,
We put all work away.
Thy face is ever smiling,
Thou fairest of the seven;
They only speak of toiling,
But thou of rest and heaven.
