Set up thy kingdom in my heart,
And make me rich, for I am poor:
To me be all thy treasures given-
The kingdom of an inward heaven!

2 Thou hast pronounc'd the mourners blest, And, lo for thee, my Lord, I mourn: I cannot, no, I cannot rest,

Till thou, my only Rest, return;
Till thou, the Prince of Peace, appear,
And dissipate the mournful tear!

3 Ah, Lord, if thou art in that sigh,
Then hear thyself within me pray;
Hear in my heart thy Spirit's cry;
Mark what my lab'ring soul would say;
Answer the deep unutter'd groan,
And show that Thou and I are One!

4 Shine on thy work, disperse the gloom,
Light, in thy light, I then shall see;
Say to my soul," Thy light is come;
Glory divine is ris'n on thee:

66

"The Winter's past, the rain is o'er;

66

'Rise up, my Love, and weep no more!"

1 WHEN sins and fears prevailing rise,
And fainting hope almost expires,
Jesus, to thee I lift mine eyes-
To thee I breathe my soul's desires.

2 Art thou not mine, my living Lord? And can my hope-my comfort die, Fix'd on the Everlasting Word;

That Word which built the earth and sky? 3 If my immortal Saviour lives, Then my immortal life is sure;

His word a firm foundation gives;
Here let me build, and rest secure.
4 Here let my faith unshaken dwell;
Immovable the promise stands ;
Not all the pow'rs of sin and hell,
Can e'er dissolve the sacred bands.
5 Here, O my soul, thy trust repose!
Since Jesus is for ever thine,
Not death itself, that last of foes,
Shall break a union so divine.

Light. Isaiah ix. 2.

8.7.

1 LIGHT of those whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death,
Come! and, thy dear self revealing,
Dissipate the clouds beneath:
The new heavens and earth's Creator,
In our deepest darkness rise!
Scatt'ring all the night of nature,
Pouring day upon our eyes!

2 Still we wait for thine appearing,
Life and joy thy beams impart,

Chasing all our fears, and cheering
Ev'ry poor benighted heart:
Soon thou'lt manifest the favour
Thou hast for the ransom'd race:
Hail! divine exalted Saviour!
Fount of New-Creation grace!

[blocks in formation]

1 COME, Lord, from above, The mountains

remove,

O'erturn all that hinders The course of thy love!

My bosom inspire, Enkindle the fire,

And wrap my whole soul in the flames of desire!

2 I languish & pine For the comfort divine,— To say and to feel "my Beloved is mine!" O Christ, the good part, My portion thou art!

O Love, let me find thee, O God, in my heart!

3 For this my heart sighs, Nothing else can suffice,

How, Lord, can I purchase the Pearl of great price?

It cannot be bought, And thou know'st I

have nought,

Not an action, a word, or a truly good thought!

4 But I hear a voice say,

66

Without money

ye may Receive it, whoever have nothing to pay: Who on Jesus relies, Without money or price

The Pearl of forgiveness And liberty buys. 5 The blessing is free."-So, Lord, let it be! And grant that thy love may be given to me: I gladly receive What thou freely dost give, And my soul does rejoice in Love's Eden to live.

6 The Gift I embrace, The giver I praise,
Ascribing salvation to Jesus's Grace!
It comes from above, The foretaste I prove,
And soon shall possess all the Fountain of
Love!

[blocks in formation]

1 Up to the hills above the sky
I raise my fervent claim;
Father of mercies, glorify
Thy fav'rite Jesu's Name!

2 Salvation in that Name is found,
Balm of my grief and care;

A med'cine for my ev'ry wound,-
All, all I want is there!.

3 JESUS!

Redeemer, Saviour, Lord,

How far from thee I roam!

Now speak-thou blest Essential Word!

And call the wand'rer home.

4 Deliv'rance to my soul proclaim,
And peace and liberty;

Shed forth the Essence of thy Name,
And JESUS prove to me!

5 Thou canst o'ercome this heart of mine; Thou wilt victorious prove;

For everlasting strength is thine!

And everlasting love!

6 Bound down by twice ten thousand ties, Yet let me hear thy call;

My soul in victory shall rise,-
Shall rise and break thro' all!

REJOICING IN GOD.

1 THE God of Abr'ham praise,
Who reigns enthron'd above,
Ancient of everlasting days,
And God of love:

Jehovah, great I AM,

By earth and heav'n confest,
We bow, and bless the sacred name,
For ever blest!
