? One undivided Trinity With triumph we proclaim: Thy universe is full of thee,
And speaks thy glorious Name. 3 Thee, holy Father, we confess; Thee, holy Son adore; Thee, Spirit of truth and holiness, We worship evermore.
4 The incommunicable right, Almighty God, receive,
Which angel-choirs, and saints in light, And saints embody'd, give.
5 Three Persons, equally Divine, We magnify and love; And both the choirs, ere long, shall join To sing thy praise above.
6 Hail! holy, holy, holy Lord, (Our heav'nly song shall be,) Supreme, essential One, ador'd In co-eternal Three!
GLORY to God on high, Eternally ador'd;
Who gave his Son to die, Our dear redeeming Lord : The Son he from his bosom gave, The people of his love to save.
Worship, and praise, and pow'r, Ascribe we to the Lamb; His finish'd work adore,
And trust his precious name; Jesus! the name to sinners giv'n; The name that lifts us up to heav'n. 3 The Holy Ghost we praise, Who shews th' atoning blood, Applies the Saviour's grace, And seals the sons of God : Spirit of grace and glory too, Inspire and take the praises due.
We with the saints above,
When time and death shall end, In thy mysterious love
A heav'nly life shall spend ; Adore the great Jehovah's grace, And fill eternity with praise.
HIS PERSON-DIVINE AND HUMAN.
1 ERE the blue heav'ns were stretch'd
From everlasting was the Word; [abroad, With God he was; the Word was God, And must divinely be ador'd.
2 By his own pow'r were all things made, By him supported all things stand; He is the whole creation's Head, And angels fly at his command. 3 Ere sin was known, or angels fell, He led the host of morning stars; (Thy generation who can tell,
Or count the number of thy years?) 4 But, lo! he leaves those heav'nly forms, The Word descends and dwells in clay, That he may save rebellious worms, Drest in a nature such as they!
5 Mortals with joy beheld his face, Th' eternal Father's only Son: How full of truth! how full of grace! When thro' the man the Godhead shone! 6 Archangels leave their high abode, To learn new myst'ries here, and tell The loves of our descending God, The glories of Immanuel.
1 AWAKE, awake the sacred song To our incarnate Lord!
Let ev'ry heart, and ev'ry tongue, Adore th' eternal Word!
2 That awful Word, that sov'reign Pow'r, By whom the worlds were made, (O happy morn! illustrious hour!) Was once in flesh array'd!
3 Then shone almighty pow'r and love, In all their glorious forms, When Jesus left his throne above, To dwell with sinful worms.
4 To dwell with misery below The Saviour left the skies, And sunk to wretchedness and woe, That worthless man might rise.
5 Adoring angels tun'd their songs, To hail the joyful day;
With rapture, then, our thankful tongues Would grateful homage pay.
6 Awake, awake the sacred song To our incarnate Lord!
Let ev'ry heart, and ev'ry tongue Adore the eternal Word;
1 HAIL, everlasting Lord, Divine incarnate Word!
Thee let all our pow'rs confess, Thee our latest breath proclaim: Help, ye angel choirs, to bless, Shout the lov'd Immanuel's name. 2 Refulgent from afar,
See the bright Morning-Star; See the Day-spring from on high, Late in deepest darkness lie: Night recedes, the shadows fly, Flames with day the op'ning sky.
3 Hail, Galilean King! Thy humble state we sing; Never shall our triumphs end: Hail, derided Majesty!
Jesus, hail! the sinner's friend, Friend of publicans and me. 4 He shines on earth ador'd The presence of the Lord; God, the mighty God and true; God by highest heav'ns confess'd, Stands display'd to human view, God supreme, for ever bless'd! 5 Jesus, to thee I bow;
Th' Almighty's fellow thou! Thou, the Father's only Son, Pleas'd he ever is in thee: Just and holy thou alone, Full, of grace and truth for me.
1 How glorious is thy human frame,
Divine Redeemer! true God-man! No seraph's tongue can reach thy fame, Yet babes will lisp it as they can.
2 A temple is thine earthly case,
Where Godhead's Triune-Persons dwell! And wisdom, goodness, pow'r and grace, The man with all their fulness fill!
