This robe of flesh I'll drop, and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;

And shout, while passing through the air,
"Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!"

The Great Physician.

"Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there?"-JER. viii. 22. Tune-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 49.

THE great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;

He speaks the drooping heart to cheer;
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus.

Sweetest note in seraph song,
Sweetest name on mortal tongue,
Sweetest carol ever sung,

Jesus, blessed Jesus.

2 Your many sins are all forgiven;
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus:
Go on your way in peace to heaven,
And wear a crown with Jesus.

3 All glory to the risen Lamb!
I now believe in Jesus;

I love the blessed Saviour's name,
I love the name of Jesus.

4 His name dispels my guilt and fear,
No other name but Jesus ;
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The precious name of Jesus.

5 Come, brethren, help me sing His praise,
Oh, praise the name of Jesus;
Come, sisters, all your voices raise,
Oh, bless the name of Jesus.

6 The children too, both great and small,
Who love the name of Jesus,

May now accept the gracious call
To work and live for Jesus.

7 And when to that bright world above
We rise to see our Jesus,

We'll sing around the throne of love
His name, the name of Jesus.

The Valley of Blessing.

“Thou hast put gladness in my heart.”—PSALM iv. 7.

Tune-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 50.

HAVE entered the valley of blessing so sweet,
And Jesus abides with me there;

And His Spirit and blood make my cleansing complete
And His perfect love casteth out fear.

Oh, come to this valley of blessing so sweet,

Where Jesus will fulness bestow;

And believe, and receive, and confess Him,
That all His salvation may know.

2 There is peace in the valley of blessing so sweet,
And plenty the land doth impart ;

And there's rest for the weary, worn traveller's feet,
And joy for the sorrowing heart.

3 There is love in the valley of blessing so sweet,
Such as none but the blood-washed may feel,
When heaven comes down redeemed spirits to greet,
And Christ sets His covenant seal.

4 There's a song in the valley of blessing so sweet,
And angels would fain join the strain,

As with rapturous praises we bow at His feet,
Crying, "Worthy the Lamb that was slain."

I Love to Sell the Story.

[blocks in formation]

52

I love to tell the Story,

Because I know it's true;

It satisfies my longings,

As nothing else would do.

I love to tell the Story; 'Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the Old, Old Story, Of Jesus and His love.

2 I love to tell the Story:

More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the Story;
It did so much for me:
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.

3 I love to tell the Story;
'Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it,
More wonderfully sweet.

I love to tell the Story;

For some have never heard
The message of salvation

From God's own Holy Word.

4 I love to tell the Story;

For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it, like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the New, New Song,
'Twill be the Old, Old Story,
That I have loved so long.

Almost Persuaded.

"Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian."—Acts xxvi 28.
Tune-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 52.

"ALMOST persuaded," now to believe;
"Almost persuaded," Christ to receive:

53

2

Seems now some soul to say?—
"Go, Spirit, go Thy way,
Some more convenient day
On Thee I'll call."

"Almost persuaded," come, come to-day;
"Almost persuaded," turn not away;
Jesus invites you here,
Angels are lingering near,

Prayers rise from hearts so dear,
Ó wanderer, come.

3 "Almost persuaded," harvest is past!
"Almost persuaded," doom comes at last!
"Almost" cannot avail :

"Almost" is but to fail;
Sad, sad, that bitter wail-
"Almost," but lost!

All to Christ J Owe.

"Who His own self bare our sins.". -I PETER ii. 24.

I

Tune-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 53.

HEAR the Saviour say,

"Thy strength indeed is small;

Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."

Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe ;

Sin had left a crimson stain; He washed it white as snow.

2 Lord, now indeed I find

Thy blood, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper's spots,
And melt the heart of stone.

3 For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim:
I'll wash my garments white,

In the blood of Calvary's Lamb.

54

4 When from my dying bed

5

My ransomed soul shall rise,
Then "Jesus paid it all"

Shall rend the vaulted skies.
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
I'll lay my trophies down,
All down at Jesus' feet.

I am Coming to the Cross.

"Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out."-JOHN vi. 37. Tune-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 54.

AM coming to the cross;

I am poor, and weak, and blind;

I am counting all but dross;

I shall full salvation find.

I am trusting, Lord, in Thee, Blessed Lamb of Calvary;
Humbly at Thy cross I bow; Save me, Jesus, save me now.

2 Long my heart has sighed for Thee,

Long has evil reigned within;

Jesus sweetly speaks to me—

"I will cleanse you from all sin."

3 Here I give my all to Thee,

Friends, and time, and earthly store,
Soul and body Thine to be-

Wholly Thine for evermore.

4 In the promises I trust,

Now I know the blood applied;
I am prostrate in the dust,
I with Christ am crucified.

5 Jesus comes! He fills my soul!
Perfected in Him I am;

I am every whit made whole:

Glory, glory to the Lamb.

Still I'm trusting, Lord, in Thee, Blessed Lamb of Calvary;
Humbly at Thy cross I bow; Jesus saves me-saves me now.
