TUNE-Songs of Love and Mercy, No. 15.

AS

SHAMED to be a Christian!
Afraid the world should know
I'm on my way to Zion,
Where joys eternal flow!
Forbid it, O my Saviour,
That I should ever be
Afraid to wear Thy colours,
Or blush to follow Thee!
2 Ashamed to be a Christian!
To love my God and King!
The fire of zeal is burning,
My soul is on the wing:
I want a faith made perfect,
That all the world may see
I stand a living witness
Of mercy rich and free.

3 Ashamed to be a Christian !
My guilty fear, depart!
I will not heed the tempter
That whispers to my heart.
Dear Saviour, though unworthy,
Yet this my only plea-
Thy all-atoning merit :

For Thou hast died for me.

TUNE-Songs of Love and Mercy, No. 190.

STAND up! stand up for Jesus!

Ye soldiers of the cross:
Lift high His royal banner,

It must not suffer loss:
From victory unto victory,
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.
2 Stand up! stand up for Jesus!

Stand in His strength alone:
The arm of flesh will fail you;

Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armour,
And watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.

3 Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle-
The next the victor's song:

O

To him that overcometh

A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

G. Duffield.

11's.

CHRISTIAN, awake! for the strife is at hand;

With helmet and shield, and a sword in thy hand,
To meet the bold tempter, go fearlessly, go!
And stand like the brave with thy face to the foe.
Stand like the brave with thy face to the foe!
2 Whatever thy danger, take heed and beware,
But turn not thy back, for no armour is there;
The legions of darkness if thou wouldst o'erthrow,
Then stand like the brave with thy face to the foe.
3 The cause of thy Master with vigour defend,

Be watchful, be zealous, and fight to the end;
Wherever He leads thee, go, valiantly go!
And stand like the brave with thy face to the foe.
4 Press on, never doubting! thy Captain is near,
With grace to supply, and with comfort to cheer;
His love like a stream in the desert will flow:
Then stand like the brave with thy face to the foe.

STANDING by a purpose true;

Heeding God's command,

Honour them, the faithful few!
All hail to Daniel's Band!

Dare to be a Daniel! Dare to stand alone!

P.M.

Dare to have a purpose firm! Dare to make it known!
2 Many mighty men are lost,
Daring not to stand,

Who for God had been a host
By joining Daniel's Band.

3 Many giants, great and tall,
Stalking through the land,
Headlong to the earth would fall,
If met by Daniel's Band.

4 Hold the gospel banner high !
On to victory grand!

Satan and his host defy!

And shout for Daniel's Band?

ONT

P.M.

NLY an armour-bearer, firmly I stand,
Waiting to follow at the King's command,
Marching, if " Onward" shall the order be,
Standing by my Captain, serving faithfully.

Hear ye the battle-cry! "Forward" the can!
See, see the faltering ones, backward they fall.
Surely my Captain will remember me,
Though but an armour-bearer

may be.

2 Only an armour-bearer, now in the field,
Guarding a shining helmet, sword, and shield,
Waiting to hear the thrilling battle-cry,
Ready then to answer, "Master, here am I!"

3 Only an armour-bearer, yet may I share
Glory immortal, and a bright crown wear,
If in the battle to my trust I'm true,
Mine shall be the honours in the Grand Review.

H

O, my comrades! see the signal
Waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing,
Victory is nigh!

"Hold the Fort, for I am coming,"
Jesus signals still;

Wave the answer back to heaven,
"By Thy grace we will."

2 See the mighty host advancing,
Satan leading on;

Mighty men around us falling,
Courage almost gone!

3 See the glorious banner waving,
Hear the trumpet blow!

In our Leader's name we 'll triumph,
Over every foe!

4 Fierce and long the battle rages,
But our help is near:

Onward comes our great Commander,
Cheer, my comrades, cheer!

BRIGHTLY beams our Father's mercy

From His lighthouse evermore;
But to us He gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.

Let the lower lights be burning!
Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

2 Dark the night of sin has settled;
Loud the angry billows roar;
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.

3 Trim your feeble lamp, my brother:
Some poor sailor, tempest-tost,
Trying now to make the harbour,
In the darkness may be lost.

P. P. Bliss.

TUNE-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 66.

W work through the morning hours;

ORK, for the night is coming,

Work, while the dew is sparkling,
Work 'mid springing flowers:
Work, when the day grows brighter,
Work, in the glowing sun;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man's work is done.

2 Work, for the night is coming,

Work through the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labour,
Rest comes sure and soon.
Give every flying minute

Something to keep in store:
Work, for the night is coming,
When man works no more.

3 Work, for the night is coming,
Under the sunset skies;
While their bright tints are glowing,
Work, for daylight flies.

Work, till the last beam fadeth,

Fadeth to shine no more:

Work, while the night is darkening,

When man's work is o'er.

197 TUNE-Songs of Love and Mercy, No. 197. CHILDREN, go and tell of Jesus,

198

How He died our souls to save;

How, from bondage to release us,
He Himself a ransom gave.

Yes, we'll go and tell of Jesus.

The pure and holy, meek and lowly Jesus;
Yes, we'll go and tell of Jesus,
Who died our souls to save.

2 Tell about His life so lowly,
All His gracious acts repeat;
Tell the Saviour's precepts holy,
Tell His invitations sweet.
3 Tell around the wondrous story,
How on Calvary's cross He died;
There the Lord of life and glory
For our sins was crucified.

4 Tell of Jesus interceding

At the Father's throne on high;
There He stands for sinners pleading,
Tell them to His cross to fly.

5 Tell each loved one, sister, brother,
Schoolmate, friend, companion, tell;
Children, go, tell one another,
Jesus loves each one so well.

TUNE-Sacred Songs and Solos, No. 51.

LOVE to tell the Story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the Story,
Because I know it's true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else would do.
I love to tell the Story,
"Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the Old, Old Story,
Of Jesus and His love.

2 I love to tell the Story,
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the Story:
It did so much for me!
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.
