Mr. Williams presented a petition of shipmasters of the State of Maine for the location of certain buoys in Penobscot bay.

Mr. Wood presented a memorial of masters, owners, and pilots of the State of New York, praying the erection of a light-house on Teller's point; also, a lamp light on Prime hook, both on the east side of Hudson river.

Mr. Joseph R. Ingersoll presented a memorial of the board of trade of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, for an appropriation. for the survey of the Ohio river; together with an estimate of the expense necessary for a slack-water navigation from the headwaters of that river to a point nearly opposite or below the city of Cincinnati, in the State of Ohio. Mr. Giles presented a memorial of the legal representatives of James Rumsey, deceased, late of Berkeley county, in the State of Virginia, praying some remuneration on the ground that the said James Rumsey was the first to apply steam power to the propulsion of vessels.

Mr. Alexander D. Sims presented a memorial of citizens of Georgetown, in the State of South Carolina, praying the erection of additional lighthouses; and also for a survey of the bar at the entrance of Winyaw bay. Ordered, That said petition and memorials be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. Harper presented the petition of Clarinda Mix-heretofore presented February 1, 1845.

Mr. Woodruff presented a memorial of William F. Piatt, of the city of New York, on behalf of himself and other heirs of his father, William Piatt, deceased, a captain in the army of the revolution, for compensation on account of the services of their father.

Mr. Woodward presented the petition of Francis Sumpter, of the State of South Carolina-heretofore presented February 6, 1844.

Mr. Bayly presented the petition of the heirs of Gustavus B. Hornerheretofore presented December 20, 1844.

Ordered, That said petitions and memorial be referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Claims.

Mr. William W. Campbell presented a memorial of the institution for the education of the deaf and dumb in the city of New York, praying for a grant of a township of land to aid said institution.

Mr. St. John presented a petition of the trustees of Tynochtee township, Wyandotte county, in the State of Ohio, for permission to select a suffcient amount of land from the Wyandotte reservation to satisfy the deficiency in section sixteen for school purposes.

Mr. Cathcart presented a petition of citizens of Cass county, in the State of Indiana, praying a donation of land for Simon Kenton, a soldier of the last war with Great Britain.

Mr. Jacob Thompson presented documents relating to certain private entries of land in the northwestern land district of the State of Mississippi. Mr. Reuben Chapman presented a petition of Wiley B. Pannel, of Blount county, in the State of Alabama, praying permission to withdraw a certain entry of land made through mistake.

Mr. Bowlin presented a petition of William Moss, of Jefferson county,

in the State of Missouri, praying permission to float his land claim of six hundred and forty acres.

Ordered, That said memorial, petitions, and other papers be referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

Mr. Winthrop presented the petition of citizens of Boston-heretofore presented February 11, 1845: which was referred to the Joint Committee on the Library.

Mr. Strohm presented four petitions of citizens of Berks county, in the State of Pennsylvania, praying for a mail-route from New Holland, in Lancaster county, to Reading, in Berks county, in said State.

Mr. William G. Brown presented a petition of citizens of Randolph county, in the State of Virginia, praying for a mail-route from the town of Stanton, in Augusta county, to the town of Parkersburg, in Wood county, in said State.

Mr. Cullom presented a petition of citizens of Jackson county, in the State of Tennessee, praying the establishment of a mail-route in said State.

Mr. Cathcart presented a petition of citizens of Elkhart county, in the State of Indiana, praying the establishment of a mail-route.

Mr. Yancey presented a petition of citizens of Coosa county, in the State of Alabama, for a mail-route.

Mr. Tilden presented the petition of John Boden Fitch-heretofore presented February 3, 1845: which was referred to the Committee of Claims. Mr. Wick presented the petition of James McAvoy-heretofore presented December 9, 1844, accompanied by additional evidence in support of said claim.

Mr. John A. Rockwell presented a petition of Nathan Smith and Charles H. Smith, of Stonington, Connecticut, owners of the fishing schooner "Washington," praying for a fishing bounty.

Mr. Preston King presented a petition of Zenas King, of Canton, St. Lawrence county, State of New York, praying compensation for certain

custom-house services at Oswegatchie under the direction of the United States marshal, in the years 1838 and 1839.

Mr. Preston King also presented a petition of Asa Sprague, of De Kalb, in the county of St. Lawrence, and State of New York, praying for compensation as a non-commissioned officer in the last war, and injuries sustained by being removed while sick at the capture of Ogdensburg.

Mr. Joseph R. Ingersoll presented the petition of Cornelius Tiers, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, praying for a reconsideration of his claim for remuneration for losses sustained by him under a contract with the Board of Navy Commissioners to furnish, "upon the requisitions of the commandant of the navy-yard at Philadelphia, all the blocks, dead-eyes, and hearts of every description and size, required for one ship of the line, one frigate, and one sloop of war," to be made according to certain descriptions laid down in said contract, and subject to the inspection of the said yard, or such other inspection as the commissioners of the navy might prescribe-heretofore presented February 9, 1835.

Mr. Isaac E. Holmes presented a petition of John T. Frost, of the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia, praying compensation for making an index to the manuscript reports of committees and executive documents in the office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives, from 1789 to 1832.

Mr. Edward D. Baker presented a petition of Henry Bogardus and the other heirs of the late Peter Bogardus, of Tazewell county, Illinois, praying remuneration for losses sustained by the destruction of property by the British during the revolutionary war.

Mr. E. Carrington Cabell presented a memorial of the citizens of Florida, praying indemnity for losses sustained during the Seminole war. Mr. Ligon presented the petition of James W. Gray and Betty H. Beard, heirs of John Gray-heretofore presented December 10, 1844.

Mr. Bayly presented the petition of Mary Willing Harrison-heretofore presented December 14, 1842.
