AFTER three centuries of Turkish oppression, the fair Island which is the subject of this book has come into the possession of England, a power able and willing to do for it what no other could. The Author has proposed to himself to give a brief, but it is hoped fairly complete, account of Cyprus, its inhabitants, climate, and commerce, and besides, a sketch of the chief routes to it, with an epitome of its history and some notice of its antiquities.
