THE WORD A MEDIUM OF CONJUNCTION OF HEAVEN AND MAN WITH THE LORD. ་ AMONG the many and wonderful favors that our great Creator and heavenly Father has bestowed upon his beloved children, the putting of his Word into their hands, may be considered as ranking in the highest place; for its benefits not only attach unto them, while they may be temporary inhabitants of this natural world, but follow them into the other life; and they cease not to enjoy the blessings contained within its bosom, even should they, by divine mercy, join company with the spirits of the just, made holy and happy angels; for, says the inspired penman, David, in Psalm cxix. 89, "For ever, O Lord, thy Word is settled in heaven." Of the Word, it may truly be said, that it is the real Christian's all in all, for time and for eternity. It is herefrom only that the knowledge of the way of salvation and eternal life can be obtained. Herefrom only can the human mind become illuminated into the truths of the divine wisdom, and, through their medium, can the heart be affected with the good things of the divine love; in which two properties are included all the blessings that the Lord can bestow upon his human creatures on earth or in heaven. One of the principal benefits arising to us from the Word's being put into our hands, is its conjoining quality. In the light and glory beaming into our hearts, in this New Jerusalem Dispensation, we can clearly discern that the Word is the medium whereby is effected the reciprocal conjunction of the Lord with heaven and man, of the church upon earth with the angelic heavens, and of the heavens with each other. To contemplate the conjoining quality of the Word, in a profitable it appears necessary to have a clear conception of the Word in its origin and use. manner, That our minds may not hesitate on this part of our subject, we have the origin and root of the Word, distinctly stated, both in the NEW SERIES, NO.
