The Peabody has 260 feet of the Parthenon frieze in position in the sculpture
gallery. It has also 170 feet in duplicate. Twenty-four casts of antique
statues and 2 of busts are deposited with the Historical Society.

Of these 6 are original slabs of large size from Nineveh, 19 are copies in plaster;
of these last the 212 feet of the Pan Athenaic frieze of the Parthenon, here
placed in position as the frieze of the gallery, the Ghiberti gates and the Craw-
ford doors of the Capitol at Washington, are each reckoned as a single example.

n 60 fragments of antique sculpture, collected in Rome by Mr. C. C. Perkins, are
set in the wall of the corridor, as is customary in Italy.

o Of these, 2 are bronze and 1 terra cotta.

p Among the casts of antique sculpture are 6 Greek vases, 36 slabs of the frieze
of the Parthenon, 24 slabs of the frieze of the Temple of Apollo at Bassæ,
and other large reliefs.

cc This is the number of pieces of ancient Cypriote statuary contained in the Di,
Cesnola collections. These are cut in the soft limestone of Cyprus, there
being no marble on the island. Among these are massive sarcophagi, heroic
and life-size statues, statuettes, many hundred heads broken off from statues
and statuettes, votive offerings, and mural tablets with inscriptions, the whole
forming a continuous series of examples of the progress of the art, beginning
with the Phoenicians and continuing with the early and later Greeks to the
Romans.

has also 19 carvings in ivory, 6 in wood, and 137 ancient inscriptions in stone.
