THESE THINGS I WILL THAT THOU AFFIRM CONSTANTLY,
THAT THEY WHICH HAVE BELIEVED IN GOD MIGHT BE
CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS: THESE THINGS ARE
GOOD AND PROFITABLE UNTO MEN.

BUT AVOID FOOLISH QUESTIONS, AND GENEALOGIES, AND
CONTENTIONS, AND STRIVINGS ABOUT THE LAW; FOR
THEY ARE UNPROFITABLE AND VAIN.-Titus iii. 8, 9.

MISTAKES CONCERNING THE NUMBER OF THE

ye not what the Scripture saith of Elias? How he ma-

keth intercession to God against Israel, saying, Lord, they

have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars:

and I am left alone, and they seek my life. But what saith

the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself

seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the

image of Baal.-Roм. xi. 2.-4.

THE TRIUMPHS OF PATIENCE.

Here is the patience of the saints.-REV. xiv. 12,

VOWS CALLED TO REMEMBRANCE.

And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell

there; and make there an altar unto God, that appeared

unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy

brother. Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all

that were with him, Put away the strange Gods that are

among you, and be clean, and change your garments: and let

us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an

altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my dis-

tress, and was with me in the way which I went.-GEN.

THE NATURE OF GENUINE RELIGION.

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit

within you and I will take the stony heart out of their

flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh; that they may

walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do

them and they shall be my people, and I will be their

-God. EZEKIEL Xi. 19. 23.

THE YOUNG ADMONISHED.

I fear the Lord from my youth.-1 KINGS Xviii. 12.

THE GOSPEL DEMANDS AND DESERVES AT-

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.-MARK IV. 23.

THE SUFFERINGS OF OUR SAVIOUR NECES-

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom

are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make

the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace

THE CONDITION OF CHRISTIANS IN THE

I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but

that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.-St. JOHN

CONCUPISCENCE PUNISHED.

And there went forth a wind from the Lord, and brought

quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it

were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's
