SIR: In response to the request of the Committee on Appropriations, communicated to this department through the Supervising Architect of the Treasury, I inclose herewith statements relative to the condition of appropriations for public buildings under the control of the Treasury Department, showing, under separate headings, the buildings in course of construction December 1, 1910, and also the buildings appropriated for or authorized but not in course of construction on the same date, the information given being grouped under descriptive captions indicating the various classes of expenditures incident to public buildings. Appropriate footnotes, with explanatory references, embracing information which it is thought will be of service to the committee, are appended to each of the statements referred to. There are also forwarded herewith, as verbally requested, the usual data with reference to the estimates for public buildings under the control of this department for the fiscal year 1912, explanatory of the necessity for the respective items. It is requested that 12 copies of these statements, as printed, may be supplied for the use of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury.
