COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS,
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
Washington, D. C., January 6, 1911.

Hon. JAMES A. TAWNEY,

Chairman Committee on Appropriations,

House of Representatives..

DEAR SIR: Representative Anderson, of Ohio, desires to secure authority to enable the Secretary of the Treasury to disregard the provision requiring 40 feet of open space for fire protection in the

selection of a suitable site for the post-office building at Fremont, Ohio. As this authority has been given in numerous instances, and as it would have been carried in the last omnibus public building bill if the committee's attention had been called to it, there can certainly be no objection to this authority being carried in your bill in connection with the regular appropriation for that city.

I write you this note so that you may know that any action your committee may see fit to take will be entirely agreeable to the Public Buildings and Grounds Committee, as I am sure that no member of this committee will have any objection to same. An item worded

as follows would no doubt cover the case:

Provided, That the Secretary of the Treasury may, in his discretion, disregard the provision requiring forty feet open space for fire protection.
