PREFACE.

It is rather in compliance with established custom, than from any sense of its necessity or even its importance, that we prefix a few words to this Second Volume of the "BRITISH CHURCHMAN." We have, indeed, nothing more to say, than to thank our friends for their continued and increasing support; and to state that we are but a part and member of a widely-spread literary confederacy, labouring in unison for the welfare of the Church and the Poor. We have enlisted with us, in the support and establishment of the same views-a Quarterly Review, several Monthly and other Periodicals, and one Newspaper. We have the most sanguine hopes that, by our combined exertions, we may be able to effect some benefit, by God's blessing, in our day and generation.

LONDON, August 1, 1845.
