lower one at the bottom, the upper one at the top, by a buff guipure lace of moderate width. The upper skirt is of the same material as the underskirt; it forms in front a rounded tablier, and at the back a square panier, slightly caught up, and rather longer than the tablier; both tablier and panier are edged all round by a guipure lace like that on the underskirt, above which is a quilling and a row of the buff insertion. The body is tight-fitting without waist-belt, and has short square basques, open up the back as far as the waist, and edged all round with lace quilling and insertion like the upper skirt. The fronts are open en cœur like fig. 3, and have revers turned back, which are so arranged as to imitate a square or Watteau opening, and these revers and the neck have a similar trimming to that on the basques, but narrower. The outer sleeves are of a very novel form, very wide at the wrist and cut square at the bottom, the whole of the back part being cut away, and the opening

filled in by five or six bouillons of white muslin, fastened at the sides by buttons; the batiste part of the sleeve is edged all round like the revers, except that at the bottom there is a wide guipure lace like that on the tablier. The undersleeves are tight-fitting, and are trimmed at the wrists by a white quilling and the narrow buff guipure and insertion. White straw hat, edged and trimmed with bright-blue silk, and red cherries with leaves.

No. 3.-Dress à deux jupes of gray sultana; the underskirt is trimmed at the bottom by three graduated flounces of white sultana, striped horizontally with gray, and each headed by a wide ruching of rose-colored silk. The upper skirt-cut like our second full-sized pattern-is open in front en tunique, the corners of the front pieces being rather pointed, and the back forms a deep full panier, caught up at the sides by bows and short ends of rose-colored silk. and is of striped white and Metternich green silk. At the bottom | sleeves, and the draped skirt, are all finished with bands and are three separate rows of trimming, each composed of a narrow flounce of white lace, above which is a bouillon of pale-green silk, headed by a double bias band of the silk, edged on each side by narrow white lace. The upper skirt is of pale-green silk. Starting from the front of waist it is sloped to form a deep point at the back, and is trimmed by three flounces of white lace (application d'Angleterre), each headed by a band of silk and a narrow white lace edging. The corsage is of pale-green silk, and is trimmed en bertha, to correspond with the lower skirt, and on the chest is placed a bouquet of scarlet carnations with foliage. At the back of the waist is a group of bows of green ribbon with two short ends.

No. 4.-Toilet of purple mohair. The deep box-plaited flounce is put on with a heading. The overskirt is formed of three rounded bouffants; these are flounced. The basque of the close corsage is en suite. Ruffles trim the corsage and straight sleeves. A puffed and ruffled tab falls at each shoulder. A ruffled basque falls below the ceinture, which is fastened at the back by a large rosette. Lace collar and undersleeves.

No. 5.-Bonnet of white silk and black lace. Loops of white ribbon trim the top; long ends fall at the back. A large cluster of roses and foliage droops in front. A single rose confines the lace-ends which cross upon the shoulder.

No. 6.-Hat of fine straw. The high crown is covered with field flowers and foliage. A scarf of black lace falls at the back.

DESCRIPTION OF PARIS BONNETS.-PAGE 243.

No. 1.-A bonnet of fine white straw, with a ruching of white lace crossing the front. A garland of roses and field flowers falls at one side. Pink silk strings. A pink ribbon bow, with floating ends, is placed at the back.

No. 5.-Dress à deux jupes. The lower skirt is of striped gray and white cotton. It is trimmed by a band of cerise silk, edged on each side by a narrow quilling of the cotton with a piping of cerise silk. The upper skirt is of gray batiste. It is edged by a flounce, headed by a band of cerise cashmere, and is caught up at each side. The pardessus or loose mantle is of cerise cashmere. It is composed of three distinct pieces, the back, which is round, and the front and side pieces, which are square and pointed, and are arranged to fall over and partially conceal the back. Each of these separate pieces is trimmed by black stamped velvet, and FROM MADAME MORRISSON's, No. 6 RUE DE LA MICHODIERE, PARIS. edged by a silk tassel fringe of the same color. A double row of the stamped velvet is carried for a short distance up the centre of the back. The mantle is also trimmed by a deep hood with three points, and lined by black velvet, and trimmed by stamped velvet and by four black floss silk tassels. In front are two similar tassels. Straw hat, trimmed by cerise velvet. No. 6.-Dress à deux jupes of white muslin. The bottom of the lower skirt is trimmed by a broad plaited flounce, headed by vandykes of blue silk, edged by narrow white lace. The upper skirt is cut open at the right side for about half its depth, and turned back to form revers, lined by blue silk, and edged by narrow white lace, the back portion being slightly deeper than the front. The skirt is caught up just above this opening, and fastened by a bouquet of field flowers, and at the left side by a similar but smaller bouquet. The corsage, which is of white muslin, is trimmed en bertha, to correspond with the lower skirt, and on the chest is placed a bouquet of field flowers. The sleeves are partially concealed by the bertha, and are composed of single bouffants of white muslin.

Page 250, No. 1.-Morning dress of very fine cambric, trimmed with flounces arranged on the skirt to simulate large tabs, ornamented with black velvet. Bodice with square pelerine, edged with a narrow flounce. Pagoda sleeves with flounce, narrow at the top, and getting very wide toward the bottom; waistband, with bow of black velvet.

DESCRIPTION OF FASHIONS.-PAGE 248.

No. 2.-Bonnet of black silk. A bow of black silk ribbon is placed a little at the side upon the full ruching of black lace. The ribbon strings knot in front. Ribbon loops, with floating ends, fall over the chignon. A spray of green leaves crosses the top.

No. 3.-Alpine hat of fine straw. This is trimmed with flat bands of narrow black velvet. In front is a bow of velvet, from which springs a black cock's feather.

No. 4.-Straw hat, with a deep border and round crown. A scarf-vail of white lace is thrown over the top and falls at the back. At one side are two large blush roses, with foliage. No. 5.-Bonnet of pale-yellow silk. A white silk ribbon encircles the crown and knots at the back, falling in long shaped ends. Others fasten in front. Garlands of roses, with foliage, complete the ornamentation.

DESCRIPTION OF CHILDREN'S FASHIONS.-PAGE 244.

No. 1.-Dress of alpaca. The skirt is blue, with sand-colored flounce and band. Sand-colored casaque, with straight sleeves and shaped basques. Ruffles, bands and bows of the same. No. 2.-Petticoat of rose-colored foulard. Overskirt of gray foulard, striped with a darker shade; this is draped at the sides short sleeves. The buttons, bands and revers are rose-colored.

No. 3.-Striped pink and white mohair petticoat, trimmed No. 1.-Dress of mignonnette-green faille. The very deep box-with three rows of black velvet. Tunic open in front, likewise plaited flounce is bordered and trimmed with bias bands of dark-brown silk. A brown rouleau divides it near the top. The pointed vest is of white silk, with a green ruffle and dark band, and is fastened by small gold buttons. Small jacket of green faille, with straight sleeves. Ruffles and bands compose the trimming. Lace collar and undersleeves. Brown silk necktic. Straw hat, trimmed with brown ribbon and flowers.

No. 2.-Promenade costume of light-blue poplinette. The gored skirt has two deep flounces; these are gathered. The overskirt is flounced and draped. Close casaque. The ruffled skirt is lifted at each side by a large rosette. Ruffles trim the corsage and straight sleeves. A rosette fastens the ceinture at the back. Lace collar and undersleeves.

No. 3.-Visiting toilet. Long skirt of dark-blue silk. This is trimmed with large scallops of white lace, headed by bands of very dark-blue satin; above this are bands and box-plaitings of the material. Overdress of light-blue silk, with dark stripes. The revers of the close corsage, the deep cuffs of the straight

No. 4.-The material may be either nankeen or brown holland. This jacket opens heart-shaped in front, and below the waist it forms five square basques, all of which are trimmed with black braid and buttons. Short skirt plaited à la grecque, with a plain tablier in front, edged at each side with buttons.

No. 5.-Dress of buff-colored summer poplin. The lower skirt has a band with shaped tabs, all of blue silk. The shaped tunic is puffed and edged with a blue band and tassel fringe. A similar trimming finishes the low corsage and pointed basques. Muslin underbody and long sleeves.

No. 6.-Petticoat of white silk, striped with blue; this is made bias. Draped tunic of plain blue silk. Low blue corsage and shaped basques, trimmed with bias striped bands. Short puffed sleeves. Striped ceinture. Lace edges the cor sage.

No. 7.-Dress à deux jupes, and pelerine en suite. The lower
