These tabs form groups of two, the upper one falling over the other. The top of the flounce is concealed by two flounces put on together, one of black and the other of white lace (the latter is slightly the broadest), and above are three bias bands of sky-blue silk, the upper band surmounted by an upright piece of faille, forming small tabs at equal distances, and bound with blue. The tightfitting casaque is of sky-blue faille; it is very short at the sides, and forms, at the back as well as in front, two deep square-faille, edged by scallops bound with black, and having above shaped basques, edged by a flounce of white lace, partly covered by one of black lace. At the back of the waist are bows and short ends of sky-blue ribbon. The front closes by buttons, and the sleeves, large at the wrists, are terminated by double ruffles of black and of white lace. Straw hat, trimmed with wild flowers and black ribbons.

them two bands of silk; below this scalloped trimming appears a flounce of black lace, starting from underneath which is a plaited flounce of the faille, edged with scallops. The front of the corsage is open en cœur, the opening being trimmel to correspond with the other portions of the dress, and it has at the back two short pointed basques; these are prolonged at the sides and front so as to form deep rounded tabs, united by silk buttons, which continue up the front of the corsage as far as the

scallops and bands, and the sleeves, which are open at the wrists, are similarly finished, and have also broad ruffles of black lace. Chemisette of white muslin. Small round straw hat, trimmed with black lace, scarlet poppies, and by a white feather. A black lace shawl or mantle should be worn with this costume.

Fig. 4. -Promenade costume of pale yellowish-brown foulard. The skirt is arranged in close folds, and bordered with a small box-plaited flounce, which is divided in the middle. The loose-opening. The basques and tabs just described are trimmed with fitting, half-open casaque is rather short in front, but deeper and very bouffante at the back. Coat-sleeves. The collar, cuffs, and revers are large and pointed. The pockets are placed very low, and are partly covered by the side-revers; these are carried quite up the fronts, and disappear beneath the collar. Silk buttons. White lace flounce and ruffles. Hat of black split straw, with a yellowish-brown gauze vail passing around the high crown and knotting at the back. A white marabout feather droops over the top.

The rounded tablier is draped at the sides, the deeper portions being turned back. Silk buttons fasten the close-fitting casaque. The basques are rounded; the large sleeves have square cuffs; the pelerine opens in front, and is slightly hollowed-out upon the shoulders. Flounces and ruffles of Chantilly lace; silk rouleau. White lace collar and undersleeves. White chip bonnet, with a high crown and raised brim ; it is trimmed with trailing sprays of blush-roses, a small white feather, and a fall of black lace. Fig. 6.-Promenade costume. The lower skirt is of black silk, and is trimmed at the bottom by a very broad plaited flounce, headed by a bias band and an upright ruffle. The upper skirt is of black silk grenadine; it is edged by a flounce of very rich Chantilly lace, surmounted by a satin band and a ruche. This skirt is caught up at each side from the waist, and falling over the back are two broad looped ends of black ribbon, finished by fringe, and these start from the ceinture, which is of similar but narrower ribbon. The corsage closes by a row of buttons, and is trimmed en carré on the chest by a ruche, which is carried round the neck at a little distance from the top. The sleeves are open at the wrists, and are trimmed in accordance with the upper skirt, but without the satin band. White chip hat, with black ribbon, corn-flowers, and a small white marabout feather.

Fig. 7.-This dress consists of an underskirt of violet-colored silk, and a tunic and princess corsage of cream-colored silk. The bottom of the underskirt is trimmed with a broad flounce, having at the lower edge a narrow plaited ruffle, headed by two bias bands of the same. The flounce is surmounted by a broad plaited trimming, slightly bouillon, and edged at each side by a bias band and plaited rufflc. The tunic is edged with silk fringe, headed by a bias band of the violet-colored silk, above which is a rich embroidery; it is caught up at the sides, and fastened by bows and floating ends of violet ribbon, thus causing it to be bouffante at the back. The front is open, and is, with the front of the corsage, closed by a row of violet buttons. The corsage is trimmed at the sides of the opening by two bands of embroidery, which approach nearer together at the waist, and then slightly widening out, are carried below it, and round to the back, where they meet, thus simulating basques. These bands are carried over the shoulders, and across the back

At each side is a large rosette-shaped tab and two leaves, all of light silk; these are embroidered and bound, and then edged with narrow lace. Close-fitting casaque; the basque, the cuffs of the half-long sleeves, and the large collar, are all trimmed to correspond-in fact, the entire front of the dress is covered with embroidery. Close-fitting casaque. The basques are rounded, but that at the back is very deep and full. Two heavy cords of green silk are knotted at the back of the waist, and fall in large loops upon the bouffant, beneath which they disappear. The straight sleeve opens to the elbow at the outer seam. Trimming of bias and scalloped bands. All the borderings and rouleaux are of silk. Silk fringe to match. At each shoulder is a knot and two loops of smaller cord. Silk buttons should fasten the casaque. Embroidered muslin collar and undersleeves. Hat of English straw, trimmed with black lace, green ribbons, and small white feathers. Long vail of dotted lace.

lin, and of the faille, twelve in number, and falling over each other. The open train tunic has a plaited flounce of white muslin, put on with a heading, and a bias band of mauve faille. Falling over the back of this skirt is a large bouffant of white muslin, similarly trimmed, the sides of which are caught up and fasten

ed by rosettes of mauve ribbon, encircled by the plaited flounce which edges the upper part of the bouffant, and is carried up to the waist. The corsage has small basques, forming two points in front and two at the back; it is open en cœur, and is trimmed in accordance with the other portions of the dress, and on the chest is a group of four bows of mauve ribbon. The sleeves are large at the wrists, and are cut open nearly to the elbows; they are trimmed with muslin ruffles, which are carried up the edges of the back, and are met by bows of mauve ribbon, with short ends. Ribbon bows in the hair.
