Nos. 1 and 2.-Back and front of a sleeveless casaque of dark cloth. It is closely belted, and is pointed at the front and back; at the latter place it forms broad folds. Widely opened cape. Pointed collar and hood. Trimming of double and single rows of heavy black silk cord. Silk tassels finish the hood. Loops of cord cross the shoulders and front, and are attached by a passementerie rosette.

No. 3.-Close-fitting casaque of black velvet. The basquefronts are pointed; the back is rounded and bouffante; the sleeves are large. Black lace trimming; the scallops are outlined by satin rouleaux. At each side of the waist is a bow of satin ribbon with tasseled ends.

No. 4. Black velvet casaque. The fronts are deep and square; the rest of the basque is small. Tight sleeves. The cape is very deep, and rounded at the back, but short and open in front. Trimming of bias satin folds and silk fringe.

No. 5.-Black satin casaque. This is loose-fitting, with coatsleeves. The cape falls low upon the shoulders, and covers the sleeves, but does not meet in front. Velvet bands, silk cord embroidery, and silk tassel-fringe compose the trimming.

No. 3.-Ceinture bow of very wide ribbon. There are four loops and four ends of varying lengths; the latter are finished with tassel-fringe to match.

No. 3.-Child's dress of light-gray merino. This is gored. The corsage is square, the sleeves are straight, and the cape is large. Trimming of crimson silk fringe, with a netted heading. The designs are worked with braid to match. White lace ruffles at the neck and wrists. Hat of light-gray beaver; crimson ribbons; gray curling feather.

Plain gored skirt.

Loose-fitting overdress, arranged in plaits at the waist. The draped skirt has a deep bias bordering of black and purple plaid silk, with a rich black tassel-fringe. Black buttons. The coat sleeve has a bias band trimming, and a square tab, edged with fringe. A broader band and fringe outline a large collar, and a round basque, which disappears beneath the front folds of the dress. Embroidered muslin collar and undersleeves. Black velvet bonnet, with a fluted, coronet front, black grosgrains ribbon trimming. At the top is a cluster of crimson roses an leaves.

The skirt has no fullness in front, but at the back it is deeper, and forms large double folds, with a flat button of black silk meeting the seams of the sidepieces. The bands are of black silk, with cross stripes of woodcolor. Fringe to match the dress, and sewn on beneath black silk rouleaux. This trimming simulates a basque at each side. pointed silk collar. Black buttons should attach the fronts. Linen collar and undersleeves. Bonnet of black silk and grosgrains ribbons. A black feather crosses the front, and at one side is a spray of bright-colored velvet blossoms and leaves.

Fig. 6.-Dress of plum-colored cashmere. The large scallops of the gored skirt are cut in small scallops, bound with black silk, and trimmed with small black silk passementerie ornaments. Below this skirt appears a deep fluting of black silk. Corsage and sleeves should be similarly trimmed: Black cash⚫ mere mantle. The scalloped border is bound with silk, ornamented like the skirt, and finished with a black silk tasselfringe. The garment is draped, and forms at the back a broad fold, crossed by bands of silk, these bands being fastened down by buttons of passementerie. An ornament of heavy cord surmounts the fold. Hat of black beaver, with band, bow, and floating ends of black gros-grains ribbon. Gauze vail. Fig. 7.-Evening toilet of blue silk. The lower skirt is closely plaited. The second skirt is lifted at the back, thus forming a rounded tablier, and upon it falls a small, square tunic. Silk fringe trimming to match the dress. This is headed by four rouleaux of blue velvet. Low, corsage. The short sleeves and bertha are puffed and fringed. Each has a single velvet rouleaux. A large bow with square ends fastens the silk ceinture at the back. Pearl ornaments in the hair.

Fig. 8.-Dress of white organdy over a train-slip of corncolored silk. A very deep fluting covers the lower part of the skirt. Three gathered flounces fall upon this fluting, and one appears below it. Double ruffles border the square corsage. The revers are of silk, edged and trimmed with delicate passementerie and cord to match. The small sleeve is puffed, ruffled, and set in beneath a silk band, which is trimmed with passementerie, and corded at the edges. Rounded and ruffled tunic, gracefully draped, and very bouffante at the back. The small basque fronts are of silk. A bow fastens the silk ceinture at the back. In the hair is a white feather aigrette, attached by a jeweled ornament.

The overskirt of rose-colored gaze de soie forms an open tunic, which is pointed, bound with white silk, and lifted at the back by a broad white band. The small pointed basque of the same light material falls in double folds at the back. The sides, however, deepen, and are attached to the tunic. Low corsage of faille, trimmed with a gauze fluting and white silk bands. Above it rises a puffing of rich white lace. Short, puffed sleeves of gauze, finished with narrow flutings and bands.

Fig. 10.-Toilet of gold-colored silk and white gaze de soie. A broad puffing of the gauze, framed in narrow flutings, is placed at some distance above the bottom of the gored skirt. Three gathered and graduating flounces of gauze outline the large and rounded tablier. Five others, which are much smaller, form the rounded bouffant. The upper flounce has a narrow, fluted heading of the same. This is erect, but all the other flutings rest upon the flounces. The small casaque is cut low and square, and is bordered with a gauze box-plaiting. The rounded basque is rather deep upon the hips, and sharply hol

lowed-out in front. Graduating flounce of gauze, with a flutel heading. Short, puffed gauze sleeves, confined by a box-plaiting of the same.

The basque is hollowed-out en cœur at the sides, and is deeper there than elsewhere. At the back is a deep and pointed fold. Above this is a trimming of black lace ruffles, upon which rest three bows of black satin ribbon, with long, fringed ends. The large sleeves are also hollowed-out en cœur, and have epaulets of lace and ribbon bows. Black satin rouleaux trim the garment and outline points at each side of the back and front. Satin buttons. Collar and undersleeves of embroidered muslin and lace. Black velvet hat, with a band and bow of satin ribbon. At one side is a white feather. Fig. 12.-Round skirt of striped silk. Close-fitting casaque of fine black cloth. The basque is cut in points, and bound with black silk. Above this bordering runs a fine silk cord. Cord and bias folds of silk are carried en eventail up to the tasseled passementerie ornament at the back of the waist. The front of the basque has a similar trimming, with a smaller ornament. Pointed bands form the large cuffs of the straight sleeves. Silk tassels finish all the points, within each of which is a flat silk button. Buttons fasten the fronts. Black beaver hat, trimmed with a silk scarf. In front are two small white feathers.
