3 We praise Thy name that Thou hast wrought, By instruments so weak as we;

Abandon'd drunkards have been brought
To hate their sin and turn to Thee;
To Thee in prayer their voices raise,
And blasphemies give place to praise.
4 Encouraged by our past success,
We labour on at Thy command;
With warmer zeal we onward press,
To renovate our native land;

Nor will we cease till o'er the world,
The temperance banner is unfurl'd.

5 Arise, O God! Thy cause maintain,
Our efforts bless, Thy work succeed,
Till every tribe of man abstain

And earth from all strong drink is freed;
This curse remove, O God! we pray,
And bring the blest millennial day.

ITH thankful hearts and cheerful voice,
With one accord we all rejoice;

And now chant forth in tuneful lays,
Our songs of gratitude and praise.

2 The song of joy, that here to-night,
Within this hall so fair and bright,
Hundreds of life teetotalers meet,
With gladsome hearts their friends to greet.
3 The song of joy, that matron fair,

'Mid anxious thought and household care,
With winning grace, this truth maintains,
Strong drink destroys, and ne'er sustains.
4 The song of joy, that rosy youth,
With mantling cheek and look of truth;
With buoyant glee, and agile limb,
Disdains strong drink as not for him.

5 The rich, the poor, the old, the young, All join in one triumphant song;

Preserve us to life's latest hour.

Prayer for our Children.

MRS. RAPER.

TANDING forth on life's rough way,
Father guide them;

Oh! we know not what ere long

May betide them.

'Neath the shadow of Thy wing,
Father, hide them,

Waking, sleeping, Lord, we pray,
Go beside them.

2 When in prayer they cry to Thee,
Thou wilt hear them;

From the stains of sin and shame
Thou wilt clear them.
'Mid the quicksands and the rocks
Thou wilt steer them!

In temptation, trial, grief,

Be Thou near them.

3 Unto Thee we give them up;
Lord, receive them;

In the world we know must be
Much to grieve them;

Many striving oft, and strong,
To deceive them;

Trustful in Thy hands of love,
We must leave them.

Mother's Treasury.

Melcombe (Grace before Meat).

BE present at our table, Lord,

Be here and everywhere adored;
These creatures bless, and grant that we
May feast in Paradise with Thee.

E thank Thee, Lord, for this our food, But more because of Jesus' blood; Let manna to our souls be given,

The bread of life sent down from heaven.

CLOSING HYMNS AND SONGS.

Kingston.

COME friends of Temp'rance, ere we part,

Join every voice and every heart;

One solemn hymn to God we raise-
One final song of grateful praise,

2 Together we may meet no more :
But there is yet a happier shore :
And there, released from toil and pain,
May we for ever meet again.

[blocks in formation]

RACIOUS God, to Thee belong,
Songs of praises evermore;

Wilt Thou hear our grateful song,
While Thy goodness we adore ?
2 Thou hast kindly deigned to bless
Every effort we have made :

Crowned our labours with success,
And the course of evil stayed.
3 Fervent praise we give to Thee,
Thou, our counsellor and friend;
Wilt Thou still our guardian be,
Still Thine aid and blessing lend?
4 Ordered by Thy sovereign will,
Guided by Thy mighty hand,
May the cause of Temperance still,
Spread triumphant through our land.

Magdalen.

THOU whose chosen place of birth,

Was 'mid the humblest scenes of earth,
Who didst all scorn and pain endure,
To save the lost and bless the poor :
Our duty in Thy life we see,

And pray for grace to follow Thee.
2 Thou who hast taught us by Thy word.
The servant's not above his lord,
Give us the courage which we need,
To follow Thee in word and deed;
The highest honour that we crave,
Be this, the lost to seek and save.

3 Where'er the wine-cup's deadly blight
Has shrouded hearts in sorrow's night;
Our eyes to all its evils ope,

Inspire our souls with faith and hope,
And may our charity extend

As Thine-alike to foe and friend.
4 Where'er a tempted brother falls,
Make quick our ear to hear his calls,
Make swift our feet to reach the spot,
Make true our hearts to leave him not;
Make strong and willing every hand,
To lift him up and help him stand.

"Yield not to Temptation."

YIELD not to temptation, for yielding is sin,

Each victory will help you some other to win; Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue, Look ever to Jesus, He'll carry you through.

Chorus.

Ask the Saviour to help you, comfort, strengthen, and keep you,

TTe is willing to aid you, He will carry you through.

2 Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God's name hold in reverence, nor take it in vain ;
Be thoughtful and earnest, kind-hearted and true,
Look ever to Jesus, He'll carry you through.

Ask the Saviour, &c.

3 To him that o'ercometh God giveth a crown,
Thro' faith we shall conquer, though often cast down;
He who is our Saviour our strength will renew,
Look ever to Jesus, He'll carry you through.
Ask the Saviour, &c.

"Rescue the Perishing."

[ocr errors]

ESCUE the perishing,
Care for the dying,

Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;

Weep o'er the erring one,

Lift up the fallen,

Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.

Chorus.

Rescue the perishing,

Care for the dying;

Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.

2 Though they are slighting Him,
Still He is waiting,

Waiting the penitent child to receive.
Plead with them earnestly,

Plead with them gently;

He will forgive if they only believe.

Rescue the perishing, &c.

3 Down in the human heart,

Crushed by the tempter,

Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;

Touched by a loving heart,

Wakened by kindness,

Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.

Rescue the perishing, &c.
