ately among the several subactivities under each account project, and a brief statement made as to the character of the work under each subactivity (Sec. 529, R. S.; 23 Stat., 356.)

195. Report of Travel.-This report, which is submitted to Congress at the beginning of the regular session, will include all official travel from Washington to points outside of the District of Columbia during the preceding fiscal year, except such travel performed by special agents, inspectors, or employees who in the discharge of their regular duties are required constantly to travel. It will show:

(1) The name of the traveler (surname, followed by initials);

(2) The full title of the traveler;

(3) The bureau in which the traveler is enrolled; (4) The destination or destinations of such travel; (5) The date or inclusive dates of the travel;

(6) A succinct but informative statement of the business or work on account of which the travel was performed; and

(7) The total expense involved.

The required data from each bureau of the department will be submitted, on forms supplied for the purpose, on or before October 15 of each year, to the Office of the Secretary, where the data will be reviewed and the report prepared for transmission to Congress (35 Stat., 244.)

196. Report of Expenditures for the Purchase, Maintenance, Repair, and Operation of Motor-Propelled and Horse-Drawn Passenger-Carrying Vehicles.-The chief of each bureau shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report showing amounts expended during the preceding fiscal year from lump-sum appropriations

for the purchase, maintenance, repair, and operation of motor-propelled and horse-drawn passenger-carrying vehicles necessary in the conduct of the field work of his bureau.

In preparing this report information should be furnished only with respect to Government-owned “ passenger-carrying vehicles," that is, Government-owned vehicles used primarily for the transportation of persons. Information regarding vehicles used primarily for the transportation of commodities, such as drays and trucks, or with respect to saddle horses, should not be included.

Reports of expenditures for the "purchase" of vehicles should clearly indicate whether or not an exchange of vehicles was effected, and, if so, there should be shown, as to each exchange, the make of the vehicle exchanged, the period of its use, the allowance therefor, and the vehicle, make thereof, and price (including exchange value) paid for each vehicle procured through such exchange. The factory model and type (touring, roadster, etc.) of motor-propelled vehicles exchanged also should be reported.

Reports of expenditures for the "maintenance, repair, and operation" of vehicles should include all expenses necessary for the use of the vehicles, such as, in the case of horse-drawn vehicles, expenditures for horses, harness, repairs to harness, forage, shoeing of horses and the like, and, in case of motor-propelled vehicles, tires, gasoline, carbide, lubricating oil, repairs, new parts and the like. (39 Stat., 491.)

197. Report of Typewriters, etc., Exchanged.-The chief of each bureau shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report of all typewriters, computing, addressing, and 85163°-199

duplicating machines exchanged during the preceding fiscal year in part payment for new machines, indicating in each case the make of the article exchanged, the period of its use, the allowance therefor, and the article, make thereof, and price (including exchange value) paid or to be paid for each article procured through such exchange. (38 Stat., 1161.)

198. Report of Useless Papers.-The chief clerk of the department shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report of the condition and character of any papers which are not needed or useful in the transaction of the current business of the department, and the pro-、 ceeds derived from the scale of such useless papers. (25 Stat., 672.)

199. Report of Seeds Purchased. The Chief of the Bureau of Plant Industry shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report showing the place, quantity, and price of seeds purchased during the preceding fiscal year from the appropriation included annually in the agriculture act for the purchase and distribution of valuable seeds. The date of each purchase should also be indicated. (39 Stat., 12.)

200. Report of Publications Received and Distributed. The Chief of the Division of Publications shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a detailed report, prepared in duplicate, showing all publications received and distributed by the Department of Agriculture during the preceding fiscal year. (28 Stat., 623.)

201. Report of Compensation or Expenses Paid to Officers or Employees of State, County, or Municipal Governments.-The Chief of the Bureau of Chemistry shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annu

ally, not later than November 1, a report showing compensation or other expenses paid to any officer or other person employed by State, county, or municipal governments. This report should indicate the name of the officer or other employee, and the amounts paid as compensation or other expenses should be reported separately. (35 Stat., 261.)

202. Report of Moneys Received as Contributions for Cooperative Work in Forest Investigations.-The Forester shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report of all moneys received during the preceding fiscal year as contributions for cooperative work in forest investigations, or the protection and improvement of the national forests. (38 Stat., 430.)

203. Report of Refunds to Depositors.-The Forester shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report showing for the preceding fiscal year:

(a) Refunds made to depositors of moneys deposited to secure the purchase price of timber or other use of lands or resources of national forests, in excess of amounts actually found due.

(b) Refunds made to claimants of sums erroneously collected for the use of lands, or for timber or other resources sold from lands within but not a part of the national forests, or for alleged illegal acts done upon such lands which are found to be legal. (36 Stat., 1253.)

204. Report of Expenditures and Means Adopted in the Suppression of Contagious Diseases of Domestic Animals.-The Chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, not later than November 1, a report showing the names of all persons employed, expenditures, and

full particulars and means adopted and carried into effect during the preceding fiscal year for the suppression of contagious, infectious, or communicable diseases of domestic animals. (23 Stat., 3.)

205. Reports of Work and Expenditures of Agricultural Experiment Stations and Colleges.-The Director of the States Relations Service shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, as soon as possible after November 1, the following reports:

(a) A report of the work and expenditures of the agricultural experiment stations in the several States and Territories, whether the appropriation of any State or Territory has been withheld, and if so, the reason therefor, as required by the Hatch and Adams Acts. (34 Stat., 64; 38 Stat., 1110.)

(b) A report of the receipts, expenditures, and results of the cooperative agricultural extension work of the department and of agricultural colleges in the several States and Territories receiving the benefits of the funds provided under the Smith-Lever Act; whether the appropriation of any State or Territory has been withheld, and if so, the reason therefor. (38 Stat., 374; 38 Stat., 1110; 39 Stat., 470.)

206. Statement of Expenditures for the Construction of Rural Post Roads, etc.-The Director of the Bureau of Public Roads shall submit to the Office of the Secretary annually, as soon as possible after November 1, a detailed report of expenditures during the preceding fiscal year from the appropriations provided by the Federal aid road act of July 1, 1916. In submitting this report expenditures for the construction of rural post roads and those in connection with the construction of roads and trails within national forests should be stated separately. (39 Stat., 358.)
