The Grand Lodge was then formed and marched to the inter- and present Officers of the Grand Lodge as appears above. It formed descendants of those old Christian warriors who for two hundred years kept the Moslem at bay and made possible a Christian Europe, and the twenty-two hundred Masons representing the very best manhood and the truest and noblest type of citizenship in the country. There is a dignity about Freemasonry that differentiates it from all other institutions; it was plain to the most casual onlooker that these were men far above the average in intelligence, in morality and in all the higher things of life. When the procession approached the site of the new building it was halted, the lines opened and the Grand Lodge, headed by the M. W. Grand Master, passed through and on to the platform, where, after an invocation by the Grand Chaplain, the corner-stone was laid in accordance with ancient Masonic customs.
