Wherefore, whatsoever your fickn. fs is, know you certainly, that it is Gods vifitation. And for what cause foever this fickaefs is feat unto you, whether it be to try your patience for the example of others, and that your faith may be found, in the day of the Lod, lauda.le, glorious and honourable, to the encrease of glory and endless felicity; or else it be fent auto you to correct and amend in you whatfcever doth offend the eyes of your heavenly. But if ye be without chaft fement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye baftards, and not ions. Further more, we have had fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: fhall we not much rather be in fubjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live? For they ver:ly for a few days chattened us after their own pleasure ; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holinefs. Thele words, good bre ther, are written in holy Scripture for our comfort and inftruction, that we should patiently, and with thankf giving, bear our heavenly Fathers correction, whenfoever by any manner of adverlity it thait pleate his gra cious goodness to vifit us. And there fhould be no greater comfort to Christian perfons, than to be made like unto Chrift, by fuffering patiently adverfities, troubles, and fickneffes. For he himieli went not up to joy, but first he suffered pain; he entered nct his glory before he was crucified. So truly our way to eternal joy is to fuffer here with Chrift; and our door to enter into eternal life is gladly to die with Chrift: that we may rife again from death, and dwell with him in everlasting life. Now therefore taking your fickneis, which is thus profitable for you, patiently, I exhort you in the Name of God to remember the profeffion which you made unto God in your Baptifm. And forafmuch as after this life there is an account to be given unto the righteous Judge, by whom all muft be judged without refpect of perfons; I require you to examine yourfelf and your cftate, both toward God and man; to that accufing and condemning yourfeit for your own faults, you may find mercy at our heavenly Fathers hand for Chrill's fake, and not be accufed and condemned in that tearful judgment. And doft thou believe in the Holy Ghoft; the holy Catholick Church; the Communion of faints; the Remiflion of fins; the Refurrection of the nefh; and everlasting life after death? The fick Perfon fhall answer, All this I fted faftly believe. Then shall the Minister examine whether be repent him truly of his fins, and be in charity with all the world: exbonting him to forgive, from the bottom of his heart, all perfons that have offended him; and if he bath offended any other to ask them forgiveness; and where he hath doneinjury or wrong to any man, that he make amends to the utmost of his power. OW is Chrift rifen from the dead, and become the firft-fruits of them that fl pt. For fince by man Na came death, by man came alfo the refurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even fo in Chri fhall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Chrift the first fruits; afterward they that are Chrifts, at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the father; when he shall have put down all rule, and all authority and power. For he must reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death: For he hath put all thing, under his feet. But when he faith all things are put under him, it is manifeft that he is excepted which did put all things under him. And when all things fhall be fubdued unto him, then hall the fon alfo himself be fubject unto hin, that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. Eife what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, the dead rife not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead? And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? Let us eat and drink, for to morrow we die Be not deceived; evil communications corrupt good manners Awake to righteoufnefs, and in not for fome have not the knowledge of God: I fpeak this to your fhame. But fome man will fay, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come ? Thou fool, that which thou fowelt is not quickened except it die. And that which thou fowell, thou foweit not that body that fhall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of fome other grain. But God giveth it a body, as it hath pleafed him, and to every feed his own body. All flesh is not the fame flesh, but there is one kind of fieth of men, another fleth of beafts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are alfo celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial; but the glory of the celeftial is one, and the glory of the ter eftrial is another. There is one glory of the fun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the itars; for one ftar differeth from another ftar in glory. So alfo is the refurr etion of the dead: It is fown in corruption; it is raifed in incorruption; It is fown in difhonour; it is raised in glory; it is fown in weakness; it is raifed in power: It is fown a natural body; it is raised a fpiritual body. There is a natu al body, and there is a fpiritual body. And fo it is written, The firft man People ought to be careful that the defign of this Office be not mistaken. For tho' it is very commendabic for a fick Perfon thus publickly to profefs his Faith in Chrift, and his Communion with the Church: yet it ought by no means to be looked upon as a Popish Viaticum; o as that it may be i gave ** iving it will fuppofed the receiving it will make a full Atonement for a Life of Iniquity, and procure a fate Passage to Heaven. This Office feems to be very properly adapted to the ferious occafion for which it is defigned. 'Tis highly folemn and affecting, fublime and comfortable. For whilft it raifes Adam was made a living foul, the faft Adam was made a quickening fpirit. Howbeit, that was not fi:ft which is fpiritual; but that which is natural, and afterward that which is fpiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy the fecond man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, fuch are they that are earthy and as is the heavenly, fuch are they alfo that are heavenly. And as we have born the image of the earthy, we shall alfo bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I fay, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I fhew you a mystery: We fhall not all fleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the laft trump; (for the trumpet shall found and the dead fhall be raise incorruptible and we shall be changed) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal mult put on immortality. So when this corruptible fhall have put on incorrup tion, and this mortal fhall have put on immortality, thea fhall be brought to pass the fay ng that is written, Death is fwallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy fting? O grave, where is thy victory? The fting of death is fin, and the ftrength of fin is the law. But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jefus Chrift. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye fted faft, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forafmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the the Lord.
