INTRODUCTORY. :0: But little explanation or comment is necessary in offering this number of the “100 CHOICE SELECTION" Series, as the various numbers which have preceded it are meeting with unprecedented success, having fairly won the public heart. The continuation of the Series is, therefore, in response to a general demand for "MORE." While we shall still endeavor, as far as in our power lieth, to gratify this desire on the part of our readers, we most respectfully extend thanks to our many patrons and friends, for the interest manifested in giving publicity to our enterprise, and the very kind assistance voluntarily rendered us in the selection of material. In compiling the present number the same care has been observed as was bestowed upon its predecessors,—with special regard to freshness of material, and adaptability to the design of the work,—the chief aim being to provide for all the varying tastes of a reading people. The question, “Where shall I get something new to speak?" is now fully met by the present volume.
